Like it or not, having a user-friendly website can make your web marketing efforts successful than ever. Moreover, without a user-friendly website, you could prevent your business from gaining new sales leads from the web that you need to take your business to the next level. The good news is that you can take actions that will make your website more user-friendly today in order to improve your customer retention. To help you instantly make your website more user-friendly, here are some quick tips you can use as rules of thumbs from a recent web project Briana Booker did on behalf of the Department of Defense ( DoD):
 • Have a web responsive site. This is extremely important because more than 50% of online searches now come from mobile devices. If viewers have trouble browsing your website from their mobile devices, they will immediately exit and never return for business. To encourage them to explore your products and services while referring others, give them a welcoming online experience regardless of using a desktop, tablet or mobile device. If you cannot afford a fully responsive website, you can get a skilled web designer to fix your website dimensions to look good on both PC and mobile devices. But it's best to invest in getting a web responsive website.
 • Have your business logo highly visible on all pages of your website. I recommend having the logo displayed on the top left of your webpages as web users will likely look to their left first - your website and logo alike are prime branding opportunities. Use it to your advantage.
 • Have a page dedicated to your contact information to help potential business connect with you. The more information you provide, the better for your business. Ideally your website should include your business phone number, email address and your physical address. You can also include your hours of business so people know when to reach you.
 • Have easy to skim content. People don't like having to read blocks of text if they do not need to do so. Instead give them content that is easy to read and understand. Make sure your website as a whole is clear and concise. I like to do this by using bulleted lists and effective call to actions.
 • Add quality search functionality. This is the best way for web visitors to get what they need from your website.

<![CDATA[How to improve Black media representation with Interactive Journalism | Publicist]]>Sat, 03 Oct 2015 21:56:08 GMThttp://fromgirltogirl.com/blog/how-to-improve-black-media-representation-with-interactive-journalism-publicistPicture
Black media representation. The Black community needs excellent media representation as misrepresentation of the black community is prevalent, but black media has the opportunity to better represent the community. Black journalists, media producers and directors have the opportunity to show the positive side of the community we love and needs nourishing. To put it short, black representation in the media matters and empowering black lives matter.

How do we control our reputation and voice in main stream media? We have to have the courage to tell our story, the true story. The black community is not about crime, violence, miseducated and damaged people. Black people have creative minds, courage and dignity. And it’s important for us to see these positive images and voices in media to give hope and educate our black youth on becoming the great leaders we need for the future.

It takes more than seeing a few black faces on camera. We need those faces in front of the camera, behind the camera and we need them not in just slave roles, demeaning roles. Yes, I cheer for Shonda Rhimes when I watch her hit show Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder, but I don’t feel like the characters on the show represent black america well. Every time I see Olivia Pope chasing after someone’s husband and being an educated black woman completely dysfunctional, it doesn’t leave me with a good feeling. There is a problem with how we represent black characters on TV shows and the movie screen. I love watching Lee Daniels popular TV show Empire, but I cringe when I see the disunity of the black family. They have power and fame yet they cannot keep their family together. The last time I recall seeing a positive image of black families on primetime TV was watching the Fresh Prince of Bel Air or The Cosby Show.

Instead of whining about the misrepresentation of black media, I am here to do something about it. As an interactive journalism, I am here to give black america the opportunity to tell their story and overcome challenges of TV and film industry racism. Where is the racial equity? We need to really do some soul-searching to inspire and enlighten our black community. We cannot wait for someone who knows nothing about black empowerment and struggle to properly represent the black community. That is not how racial equity works.

According to the Nielsen Report, black america is one of the largest percentage groups who watch TV. What does that mean? We need to better use our community power over media. How can we maximize our media return of investment? Let advertisement support black owned business and media.

My name is Briana Booker and I am an interactive journalist ready to take black media to the next level. If you need a business proposal writer, social media manager, publicist or more, reach out to me. I have years of experience supporting black owned business as well as publishing for black media, including black women empowerment magazines like Slantress Magazine. Let’s have the conversation.

This week I had the pleasure to interview Kristen Maxwell Cooper, Deputy Editor of The Knot and Amanda Miller, PayPal's wedding expert to learn ways Millennial Couples can reduce wedding financial stress and cut out their wedding planning blues. The opportunity came along through the SVP of Edelman , Liz Foster, who was so kind to coordinate the interview after reading my National Weddings Column on Examiner.com. I believe the interview is very informative for millennials making such a big commitment in marriage and truly believe the article is a must read for all trying to stay within a budget for all things wedding. My name is Briana Booker and I love to write. I love to write so much that I built a career on writing. I've been writing since the age of 16 and it comes natural to me. I write with a purpose and now I am here to help freelance writers across the nation and the world learn how to build up a freelance writing client list and maintain it. Just like many freelance writers, I use to have difficulty finding and building up my freelance writing client list. I knew I had the talent but had no clue how to find people who would happily pay me fairly for quality content. Then one day, I stumbled into the career of marketing. Yes, I have an International Studies college degree and only took a few marketing classes in college, but I became a professional marketing consultant, with certificates and all in a matter of years. I also became a web manager, digital strategist and social media manager. I like to thank the variety in my International Studies curriculum helped me adapt, but that's a story for another day. I ended up making more an hour in freelance writing than working a 9 to 5 by building quality relationships with people of great influence. I also learned some great marketing tactics along the way. To help you out, read my article ' How to find freelance writing clients and buildup your customer base' for more information. I promise it's worth the read. If you need further help, you can always reach out to me at brianabooker@fromigrltogirl.com and I'll help you build up your freelance writing client list so you can spend more time writing and less time worrying about how to market your freelance writing business. <![CDATA[Life Success: The Importance of Self Worth]]>Sat, 07 Mar 2015 17:38:02 GMThttp://fromgirltogirl.com/blog/life-success-the-importance-of-self-worthPicture
Do you want great things to happen to you? Most of us will say yes to this question, but will most of us say yes that we have the ability to make good things happen for ourselves? You may say you need x amount of resources or you need certain people in your network or life in order to make great things happen.

One of the best ways to make great things happen to you and for you is to realize no relationship, partnership or x amount of resources will fill emotional voids you have with yourself. Good things happen to people who know how to make the most of their life circumstances. They find ways to make themselves happy.

Bottom line: you need to show up and step up to the table for yourself to make things happen. If you feel you are broken, you will introduce the wrong people into your life and you will put yourself in bad circumstances. How we feel about ourselves is how we attract others to our lives. People take advantage of people that feel broken and leave after they are done using said people up.

This is why it’s so important to focus energy on yourself and identify your passions in order to learn, grow and do some good during your time here on earth.

You are valuable, rare and inspirational. You just have to believe that you are unique, special, meaningful enough to bring value to the table. You can’t expect high quality outcomes when you are choosing low quality outcomes because you don’t feel enough for yourself.

People don’t have the final say on the outcome of your life. You have the final decision to change your life for the better, no matter your life circumstance.

Only when you truly appreciate yourself can you give rather than hope you are getting the best things in life. Through giving, you will find a positive sense of self and some form of happiness.

People will trust you because you took the high road to be authentic and truly care for yourself. Don’t expect to manipulate people and become a happy and successful person in the process - it’s not going to happen. You need to connect with people in positive ways in order to embrace and enjoy happiness and success. You can only connect with people in positive ways when you are connected with yourself in positive ways.

When you care about yourself, you will attract people that care about you and help you ultimately reach your personal goals. Trust me, people support people that want to make a positive change in the world. It’s not all about money - money comes and goes. A good reputation and trust are priceless and will take you far in life.

I like personal. I like relevant. I like transparent. I like to support the things that people care about, that move their souls. Do you have something worth talking about?

Share on Fromgirltogirl.com - a platform for the community by community members.

The question you should ask yourself everyday is how do you matter. If you can’t think of an answer to why you matter, it’s time to put in the work, the effort to discover your value. You should value yourself no matter what - value your creative freedom and the world will value you.

<![CDATA[7 Creative Ways to Attract Female Consumers to Your Business]]>Sun, 22 Feb 2015 19:47:03 GMThttp://fromgirltogirl.com/blog/7-creative-ways-to-attract-female-consumers-to-your-businessPicture
Do you tailor your products and services to girls and women? If yes, you are sitting on a goldmine, but you need to find creative ways to attract female consumers and keep them coming back for more. Think of yourself as the modern-day Mel Fisher. If you don’t know who is Mel Fisher, read up on the dreamer, the visionary, the legend. He had a dream, a vision and didn’t care what any one thought about it. He didn’t take no for an answer. He kept dreaming and it paid off.

You need to think that way about your business. You need to practice resourcefulness, invest in the right partnerships and make sound financial decisions to succeed in business. Save, invest and give back. Repeat.

I'll be honest with you - connecting to female consumers is no easy task. It takes years and years of research to target women and truly sell the products and services you believe they want and need. Female consumers don’t fit in a box. They are a diverse group. I know because I manage Fromgirltogirl.com a lifestyle publication and social good community designed for girls by girls.

At the beginning I wrote in my blog things I was passionate about. It started as a therapeutic hobby for me and no more than 5 people followed the blog when I started.

I had no intent to make a profit off the website or even to build a following, but it happened. I realized when you are passionate, truly passionate about something - there is someone out there that can relate to similar passions. That in itself is what made Fromgirltogirl scalable.

Fromgirltogirl went from personal blog to a lifestyle publication and social good community designed for girls by girls. It became a movement. A safe place for women to express themselves, their wants and needs. We offer helpful networking events, educational programs and support organizations that truly empowers the global community.

We know girls. We know women. We know how to grow a following and keep it. Fromgirltogirl can help your business grow.

Fromgirltogirl.com has more than 33,000 monthly subscribers ( and growing). If your product speaks to girls and women, we can tell your story to our readers with a twist. Developing distinctive content is key to reaching female consumers. We don’t view girls and women as dollar signs. Women are valuable people. We attract women to our community in ways that are fun and give them a reason to spend money with merchants that offer quality goods and services.

Women consumers trust the recommendations of Fromgirltogirl.com because those recommendations come from local and well-known figures in the community that speak to them on topics of interests to women. The exposure can give your business the opportunity to reach a vast amount of female consumers in a short amount of time.

We understand that businesses that target female consumers are dependent on women’s buying power to succeed.

Here are services that have been successful through Fromgirltogirl content promotions:

 • Increasing web traffic or traffic to physical location by wearing outfits and accessories of organizations at high traffic events.
 • Offering discounts and cash back to consumers that are loyal to brands ( half cash and half in store dollars via coupons). It is a great way to entice women consumers to return and shop at your business.
 • Highlighting women in the community to give their men and children a reason to support them - giveaways and awards do wonders.
 • Help women with limited time find what they need, when they need it.
 • Help women with multitasking by helping them discover products and services that help them with multi-tasking
 • Sponsor family oriented products and services as well as women only products and services
 • We help companies that sell big-ticket items, particularly to teens and young adults, to find ways to give back to the community and make those big-ticket items more enticing. It may come in the form of donating to the local school district once a year or other give back efforts.
We know how to connect with family oriented women. We know how to connect with single women. Helping them find programs, events, products and services that speak to their lifestyle is important to us. That is where you come in! Fromgirltogirl is here to get the word out on you.

At the end of the day we help female consumers while helping you get the greatest exposure for your products and establishment.
